I purchased this based mainly on reviewer's great comments. It arrived quickly and in good packaging. I replaced a Hitachi stereo amplifier receiver that lacks digital input for iPOD, but the sound from it is still very good. It would be hard to beat the Hitachi's reliability--thirty years of trouble free enjoyment, so I hope this HK unit lasts a long time. It is larger and heavier than the old Hitachi and generates more heat. Based on reviewers' advice, I added The Bridge docking station for the iPOD. That advice was spot on and really valuable. The HK 3490 definitely generates better sound, and it brings amazing tone quality from my ancient American Acoustic speakers. There is plenty of bass, and excellent overall quality at low volume. The unit seemed very easy to hook up to antennas, tape deck, record turntable, CD player and iPOD. The radio tuner draws in stations better than did the old Hitachi.
